We are entering the third year of the “Say HI to Sustainability” – project, which is a partnership between HI Norway, Hi Brazil and NOREC (Norwegian Agency for Exchange Cooperation).
The project’s main goal is to help hostels in both countries to become more sustainable through different initiatives. For the past two years, Norwegians have been on exchange in Brazil in order to develop activities and started the work with a certification template, and spread awareness about sustainability, and Brazilians have done the same in Norway. You can also check out some amazing landscapes from Norway and look into what the former participants in the project have done on their adventures in Brazil in our blogposts. Also, if you are a savvy (and sustainable) traveler, make sure you get everything ready before heading to your next trip. That being said, here´s a little bit more about this year´s participants:
– Amarílis Coelho:
This smart Brazilian lady has already travelled to 20 different countries, where she has spread her creativity and joy around. Her goal on this project is to make a positive impact in the tourism industry, by raising awareness on environmental causes and engaging local communities. Starting at HI Norway!
– Ane Omland:
Ane has been interested in Latin America as a field for more than a decade, and has travelled through and lived in the region for several years. Ane´s goal for this project is spreading awareness about sustainability through social activities at the hostels, thus starting at the local level.
– Emilia Barreto:
A relentless entrepreneur who lived in four different countries (Norway is the 5th) and is passionate about new cultures and particularly interested in sustainability related projects. She aims to help HI Norway become a reference in sustainability in Europe as well as share good practical examples for the hospitality industry.
– Thomas Røkås:
This crazy Norwegian has the world as his backyard. He has a passion for sustainable living and when he is not playing the guitar or writing songs, he is probably talking politics over a cold “cervejinha”(beer). Thomas’s goal is to change the world, starting with helping to implement sustainable practices within the HI Network.
As a team, we will keep up the great work that the previous participants have started and publish material that will be available throughout our channels, so stay tuned and follow us on social media for updates:
