Organizing a beach cleanup is a great way to include your guests and your local community in a social activity. The greatest motivation could be to of course give back to our nature, but also to show your hostels involvement and engagement in staying sustainable and environmentally conscious.
September 16th is the international day for beach cleanup, but please do not feel limited to only one day a year. It could all the same be a Christmas or a new years present to our planet, maybe a spring cleanup or a nice summer activity.
The part of organizing is actually quite simple, just hang some posters at your hostel and in the local community. At the local supermarket, schools and colleges or on locations where sports teams or other groups gather. Some events have had t-shirts printed up for the participants, while some have food and drinks (which doesn’t necessarily have to be free)
Feel free to either use or be inspired by our beach cleanup poster, which you can download here. Also have a look at the success they had with their beach cleanup in Aracaju, organized by Aju Hostel & Pousada.
